Straight actor plays a gay role. The in-depth discussion reveals strange realities.  (A) Theater & Hollywood are full of gay people. Yet somehow only straight people can be found for gay roles. James Sutton is to be commended for not expressing contempt at gay men. (B) Nostalgia for the bad times of the past. Your mom won't accept you as gay. If you die in the ghetto, it means nothing. If you die in uniform, it means something to someone somewhere. So you join the Marine Corps. Your fellow recruits discover you're gay when they see your ERECTION in the communal shower. You're beat up & ostracized. But you hang in there. Slowly other trainees start to defend you.  One of the drill sergeants takes up for you when the other instructors join the gay taunting & mistreatment. You misinterpret that as your drill sergeant is secretly gay. Maybe. In the final field exercise, you follow him into the shower. You make a pass. He didn't help you because you're gay.
