The Garden of Love - William Blake
Red-Pill William Blake.
He wandered the city & countryside without schooling. He was precocious & didn't need any. At age 14 he rejected his first apprenticeship as Engraver saying the master looks like he will be hanged some day.....and 12 years later! The second master taught William the trade. He would illustrate each poem. He taught his wife to read & write & the skill of illustrative engraving. They had no children.
William is one of 7 children, only 2 survive beyond infancy. He watches his brother's last breath when he dies from an illness. In 1780 William's adult life would be influenced when he survives the London riots protesting the war in America. His pen is more incisive than the sword.

The Garden of Love
BY WILLIAM BLAKE (1757 - 1827)
I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen:
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.
And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
And 'Thou shalt not' writ over the door;
So I turn'd to the Garden of Love,
That so many sweet flowers bore.
And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tomb-stones where flowers should be:
And Priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars, my joys & desires.
