"I Can't Wait" origin story

"I Can't Wait" origin story. Sitting on a box next to a furnace playing an acoustic guitar with nylon strings. It became a regional hit in Portland Oregon but no national label would pick it up. It was remixed in Holland Europe. Came back to New York dance clubs. Picked up by Atlantic records. It became a global hit summer & fall 1986 reaching #1 in America & 15 weeks top 40.
