Michael & Thomas meet in battle

Michael & Thomas meet in battle. They kiss & agree to reunite after the war. They fall in love. Michael's wife stands in the way of their gay love. In her old age she confesses that she "ruined" the lives of 2 people.

Fast forward. Both men have died. Her grandson is gay. She's still homophobic, calls gays "animals". She softens & the dirty little family secrets come out to finally clear the air some 70 years later.

Man In an Orange Shirt. 2017 PBS 2-part  miniseries on Tubi. Rated TV-14.

One of my favorite scenes. Michael goes to the jail to surprise Thomas on his release after a year of incarceration for being gay in the wrong place. To Michael's surprise, a group of Thomas's friends pick him up. Michael hides behind a car as they drive away. Michael visited Thomas in jail one time at great risk to himself & his reputation. Thomas forbids him from visiting again.

Michael never reveals he was there on Thomas' release from jail. It made me think how much we do for the one we love & they never know about it. Sacrifices. Chances. But Thomas will never know. Michael didn't mail his love letter to Thomas. The grandson learns the lesson. Our biggest obstacles are ourselves. Times have changed for the better.
