Blowout on the Interstate

Blowout on the Interstate. Changing a flat tire is romantic. Gay couple on a daytime date for gay pride.

We both dressed to look gay.  This year we're not attending any gay pride parades. Instead, a busy highway of cars paraded past us.

It wasn't an easy straightforward fix. Of course not. We're gay. But we got it done. The jack & lug wrench were intended for a car,  not a big-ass pickup.  We had to think about it.

Jack up the truck. Put the spare under it. Lower & reposition the jack. Lift again so the spare can clear the ground & be put in place.

The lugs required great manly strength & balance to remove. Perhaps overtightened at the shop. Or the torque of the rim under the vehicle's weight.

Finally the spare is on. We tighten down the lugs. Remove the jack. But we hadn't seated the rim against the rotor. My boyfriend is getting impatient. Let's go. I calm him down. I show him the loose lugs.

We tighten the lugs. Then drive forward a couple feet. The lugs are loose again. We tighten again for several cycles. Now it is fully seated & mounted.

A big-ass pickup pulled over & offered help. Where were you 20 minutes ago? We just now got it. Thanks.

The parade of traffic was bumper to bumper the whole time we were sidelined. My boyfriend promised to drive less aggressively & stay in the slow lane. But he didn't.

On the way home, I said - I'm glad I was there to help you change the tire. I felt so proud being seen with you on the side of the road. Shopping at the mall for lingerie. Sharing an entree. Sneaking kisses at the park.

You told me you love me. You couldn't have done it by yourself. We make a great team. You're proud of me too. We were definitely seen together out in public. Mission accomplished. We made love when we got home.

That's how I celebrated gay pride this year. My body feels like it got run over by a big-ass truck. But my heart is full of gay love & romance.
